Hey guys snagged this off of ebay from one of our forum members. Was looking at it and there are spots on the upper breast pockets where badges were displayed on the tunic. Wondering what awards you would recommend putting on the tunic? I can post more pics if desired. Look forward to your responses and thanks in advance. Matt

Thanks guys, I just couldn't pass it up. Its a stellar addition to my tropical collection (and my tropical infantry bustina taken from Africa looks really good on it!) I am really digging the Italian militaria as well, do you guys know of any books on the medals, insignia, tunics and what not? I would really like to get a bit more into it and find I am a bit uninformed. Also can you guys help me with identifying the ribbon bar medals? Like I said I wanna know more but don't know where to look. Even looking for Italian militaria online is hard to find. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks guys, will pick up that badge for the tunic. Matt

Matt,
Here are the basic ones
The three Osprey Men at Arms series are decent and in English and easy to find.
It covers (1) The Italian Army 1940-1943
(2) The Italian Army in Africa 1940-43
(3) The Italian Army 1943-1945
"Mussolinis Soldiers" by Rex Trye.
He also did one on Italian Africa Corp uniforms but its hard to find sometimes. I don't even have it.
In Italian with some English translation
"Uniformi E Distintivi dell "Esercito Italiano 1933-1945"
by Paolo Marzetti ( may be out of print)
Rosignoli did three large format books on the RSI, MVSN and Alpini ( Half color plates and photos)
Hope this helps

I don't want to spoil the fun, but IMHO this sahariana is very, very similar to those produced during ww2 for the Regia Marina, stored away and never issued.
Could you check the inside of the jacket and also under the collar for any stamps.
Some close up pictures of the buttons would also be helpful.
Looking at the ribbon bar, I would say this is an officer.
Strangely there are no rank stripes on the sleeves, neither stars on the shoulder boards.

Found in a Naples depot is the story...All in excellant unissued condition
with similar orange-red (post war applied) depot markings, ww2 made but never issued...
Perhaps the Sahariana could indeed ba a Navy piece from that source based on its condition!
This is what I received as a reply from Italy to my question on the tan Navy Italian Jumper set (brand spanking new condition) which I had shown before:
Hello Nick,
yes is original, this is WW2 San Marco tropical jumper set are new condition never
used found in italian marine corp depot in Naples my city.
