    Golden 29th SS officer's eagles

Question regarding golden bullion Golden 29th SS officer's eagles.
    Was that the standard?
As Italian officers insignia in general (like cuff chevrons) were also gold?
    as opposed to "German" silver?

More in this thread with some original examples!
    (POST 267 and 268)

The shown cap eagle example is a recently made repro and the other original examples belong to Dennis! WOW!

Just wondering about the Golden color on these! (tabs even piped in Gold!)
Later black backed officer grade ones were always manufactured more appropriately in silver Bullion... =German color!

Cap size version here (a repro)! Its definately Golden...so that's the norm for officers?

or maker/style variation? (same topic also posted in SS section btw)

Nick, I don't think mine are gold just some type of silver wire tarnished. The wire around the unissued tabs are actually silver and silver tarnished almost to black. If any gold was used it was probably just what the tailor used or preference by the Officer. All were private made under no control such as a RZM.

The gold repro one you posted is a copy of these fakes from the 70's

Thanks for explaining Dennis...so those are tarnished. Silver would remain the standard as I initially thought...
but was wondering about golden variants!
That golden eagle I showed actually turned out to be a sleeve eagle based on the fasces...
it just has a short wing span...which initially made me think that its a cap eagle...its not!

Are these eagles also silver bullion (on red)?
but now appear gold because they're tarnished?
One looks for sure gold... makers variation?
            (from an Italian reference book)
            Thoughts?

The 2nd image is interesting as it shows a metal cap eagle pinned on the sleeve...
I guess they used whatever they could get their hands on!

To me Nick they are some type of Italian wire that tarnishes, if you look close it appears as some of the silver is peaking through. As I said once I wouldn't be surprised of any variation of anything an Italian SS legionario would wear. We have seen Heer eagles, US windbreakers, large Ardtiti skull pinned to jacket, red tabs with runes, giant painted runes on helmets ,skulls on Alpini hats and berets. They were a poor Division and grabbed what they could while trying to make a statement with what they had, or could get away with . They weren't homogeneous as a Legion or later as a Division. I think there officers took a lot of liberties in the use their insignia.
