pith helmet badge, what is it for?

I saw this on a pith for sale and wondered what the badge is for, or is it a fantasy piece or a fake?
I assume its Fascist and the pith looks like the colonial police, rather than military. Are there any good books on fascist period insignia and this sort of item? Are there any good books on Italian piths?

Thanks for the info on the badge, I found a site selling them in the US.
What about good referrence books on Fascist period insignia? and pith helmets. I think there are more than 3 or 4 types used of pith used.
