Si! It was mostly used by mounted personnel like cavalrymen and motorcyclists if I remember correctly. But during the RSI(1943-45) period it was also used by other soldiers. -
Not a belt, a "Bandoleer", worn over the shoulder....and yes, WW 2 Italian.

Si Camerata, it is a very busy way to carry twenty four rounds of 6.5mm...
This is one I have, it was a Pistol Bandoleer, but was reengineered at the production centre...
It has a slot cut at the metal jointing fitting as well.
