    Italian Fascist Medals, help wanted!

    Hello!

    I stumbled over some Italian medals, the first one I think is for the Italian Volunteers in the Spanish Civil War, right? IMO very nice looking. I´m not sure that this is the right ribbon for this exact medal.

    Is it common? Value?

          Dear Peppe864;

          The first medal is Spanish, not Italian. The Italians had there own volunteers medal instituted on the 6th of June 1940 by Royal decree no. 1244 of which two official versions exist. Ofcourse there is a possibility of a private purchase by an Italian volunteer.

          The second medal is not an official medal. This medal is awarded to participants of the "Campo Mussolini/Dux" in 1936, living abroad.

          Greetings,

            Thank you for the info!

            Yes indeed it is Spanish, how could I have missed that???

            The funny thing is that I read about it on an website about Italian medals, and they claimed it ti be Italian.

            The moral of the story is: Do not believe everything you read on peoples websites.

            If anyone has additional info about the Spnaish medal, I would liek to hear/read it.

              Medals awarded for the Spanish campaign is a rather difficult field.
              As I said the Italians had officially 2 types of volonteer medals and officially only the ribbon for the commemorative medal for the Spanish campaign was issued. However a lot of medals are out there, all of them privatly purchased.

              I checked my book and the website this time and I have to admit, I wrote my response to quick It is a Italian private purchase as the engraver is Italian. However it does not follow the degree, so it is difficult to say something about the date of coining and its status.
              The same goes for the encountered version Volontari di guerra O.M.S. as this too does not follow the degree, the book "Le Medaglia Ufficiale Militari e Civili del Reno D'Italia" calls it a likely post-war privatly purchased medal.

              Apologies.
