    Hungarian Officer Painting

    Hi Everyone,

I picked this up at my local antique shop this week. I think it's a Hungarian
Officer in his dress uniform. It's dated 1943 and possibly the subjects name and the artists.

Can anyone give me some more info on this?

    Thanks,
    Keith

        Dear Keith,

This is a hungarian captain (százados) on the painting.

        Regards,

          Hi Gergo,

Thank you very much. Is that the mans name on the lower right corner?

            Hi Keith,

The name on the lower right corner (Fehér Árpádné) means Mrs. Fehér. This is the painter's name.

                Hi,

He is definitely a hungarian hussar captain wearing a M1931 blue dress uniform.

                His medals:

                1. 3rd Class of the Military Merit Cross with swords
                2. Silver Military Merit Medal with swords
                3. Bronze Military Merit Medal with swords (both with Franz Joseph's portrait)
                4. Signum Laudis (type 1922) with the miniature and the second award clasp of the Silver Military Merit Medal on the ribbon (that means he won but never recived secondly this medal during the WW1, but from 1931 he was entitled to wear it as miniature on the ribbon of the hungarian Signum Laudis)
                5. Carl Troop Cross
                6. Hungarian WW1 Commemorative Medal with swords and helmet
                7. Commemorative Medal for the Liberation of Transylvania
                8. Iron Class 2nd class (1914)

                Regards,

                Ajtony

                  Hi Ajtony,

Thank you very much for these informations!
I'm very ignorant on the medals.

Hungarian ranklists exist. This Hauptman @ 1940 might stick out given his rank, the Hussar regiment and the double SL.
That is a great antique shop. Central Mass?
