Need help to identify a badge

Hello, i am posting a picture of an unknown badge that a friend of mine has got few months ago in Austria. We tried to look for some informations but it was unsuccessful... From the pin on the back you'll see it is made in Riga, so we are talking about a Latvia/Lettland badge. Maybe this is a regimental badge due to the "6" on the top part of the sword... ???
Can anyone help me to understand what is this?

I just got some more info or maybe i should say some speculation on this badge... the "6" should be the rank of the decoration (something like a 6th grade) and the sun on the background of the badge shouls be the symbolic icon for Latvia. Anyone has further information on this?
