    Italian M34 jacket "Automobilisti"

    Hello,
    one of my last purchase.
An M34 italian jacket for Transports (Automobilisti) speciality, collar tabs are black flames on blue background. Lieutenant (tenente) rank.
There is also 10 years MVSN service gladio on the breast.
    All opinions are welcome!
    Thank you.

    Regards
    Brus

          Hallo Brus

A nice example of italian pre-war officer's jacket

I don't have an explanation for the Militia's ribbon

          best regards

              Thank you enorepap,
so is possible that the MVSN ribbon was not period applied?

Yes Brus, I think so. It was the rule that a junior officer (as a lieutenant) didn't bear medals' ribbons, due to his short period of service (and you have to consider that in this case we refer to a pre-war career) . A previous and long period of service in the Militia for an Army officer is a case I never saw previously. best regards

Nice uniform, quite rare indeed. The Corpo Automobilistico was created with the law number 2171 of 27th december 1935, but only on the 18th march 1936 were established badge and collar tabs. This means your jacket was tailored between 1936 and 1939, due to the introduction of the new uniform in 1940 without branch color on the collar.

About MVSN ribbon was probably not period applied but some Officer were previously drafted as Army Officer then joined the MVSN, and it is possible that someone was called back for a short period to get an update. You have to consider the Ethiopian Campaign and the MVSN shortage for technical trained Officers. According to contemporary books there were only 209 Officer among 1st and 2nd Lieutenant: IMO your jacket is quite rare!
