I still believe few are hidden somewhere (may be postwar repainted), but to help them to surface we have to definitively legit it as period made (as for me no doubt about it).

Stefano, See post #7 You will need to wake up earlier in the mornings now.

Please don't forget about the photos of the red skull Helmet. Can you pop them into my e-mail too ,so we can discuss that helmet.

I think by the shadows on the helmet in the photo. The skull is metal.

By the shadows it looks more a stencilled on skull,if a skull.
Yes Flashider, I remember that helmet.I should have the photos.
However it would be interesting you to post the ones you have. Thanks.PaoloM

Do you think this is the same man as the Officer in the center of the same ohoto. I do! Notice his large size helmet in both photos also.

I think it's possibly the same helmet without the insignia. In the photo I just posted his expression is a little different and shadows show a slight cleff in his chin .

Paolo , Sorry I don't agree its a stencil. I played with the picture. If you look you can see dark shadowed area of the eyes and shadow under the chin of the skull showing three dimensional effect.

Dennis, maybe you're right! The skull in fact looks in relief.Glued or soldered on.
                          Interesting.PaoloM

From the italian Combat 1 a 6 forum:

The original caption it is present, and so report:
The SS Legionary Mascitti Ermenegildo, from Milan, awarded with the 1st and 2nd Class Iron Cross on the field, Nettuno front.

Mascitti it was seventeen years old, and it was awarded by the SS-Oberfuhrer Diebitsch in the first days of may, 1944, aside of Untersturmbahnfuhrer Massimo Flick, Unterscharfuhrer Oceanico Fiaschi, Unterscharfuhrer Giovanni Grandi, and Unterscharfuhrer Pietro Orlandoni.

Here is another photo of the ceremony (from the book Sentire, Pensare, Volere, by Sergio Corbatti and Marco Nava). The first and second men from the right seems not to carry insignia.

Yes , Legionere to the right seems to be the same as post 144. But is it also the same man in the center of post 138 promoted from Legionere to an Officer. It looks like him but he is not wearing the EK2 in the photo. Could the EK's been reawarded for the ceromony.
