Sorry Ric....
To me appears as a big "buck"!!
I never saw a decal like this...if it's made like an "original Italian SS decal"...sincerely I don't know...
But for sure the paintjob and the rust of this helmet appears artificially made.
Could you please show us more photos of the liner, chinstrap, interior of the rivets...
Thank you

Stefano, I wouldn't jump to a conclusion on this one . Photos on the internet are decieving , especially when it comes to age and patina. It would need a hands on( I think you know what I mean) . What I do like is that I never saw a decal like this and it is a decal. I would think a run of fakes would be found popping up occasionaly. Again even if German decals were used also. I don't rule out Italian made limited decals made locally especially since the Italian SS was dispersed through out Italy. The decals may have been made privately by local Commanders. Remember the Germans stopped putting SS decals on helmet earlier and this may have circumvented the chain of command.

Yes my friend...Ok!
But sincerely I don't think to change my opinion after an hands inspection... It has a bad appearance
Do you like the rust pittings on that decal?
IMO the Italian legione SS was one of the poorest formation of the RSI...Scarce armament, equipment, money, etc...etc...You can see in photos what they used!!
They were not trained by the germans, they don't had german guns and equipment like the four Italian army divisions trained in germany(that used decals on helmets).
All is possible about a decal....but hard to tell...
P.S. I saw in the past Italian SS helmets with "decal" judged as fakes by a big Italian collector community. I can guaranteed that the "appearance" of some of them was better than this one
It's only my personal opinion!!!Last edited by flashider; 04-07-2009, 07:26 PM.

Stefano, I have no opinion for sure on the helmet.
Some Italian SS were trained at Debica Training Depot in Poland by the Germans. I don't see the comparison between Equipiment used and insignia. The Itallian SS had to issued special red insignia which were made exclusively for them, also Lorioli skulls( a fact). So why not decals. (Not a fact) but a possibility.

Friends, I saw an identical decal on two German M.42 helmets .They had
also on the right side a decalled tri-colour shield(not present on this M.33).These helmets had been seen by the most part of the Italian collector's community and judged as fakes made in the 80's.Some helmets of this kind and M.33s were available on the US market at unbelievable prices till the end of the 90's. I agree with Flashider:the rust looks artificial and the paint job, even if well made doesn't inspire... I saw in the past other SS decals on Italian helmets, but they were without any doubt the German ones.Till today, even if nobody can exclude that original decals for the 'SS Italiana' have been made,I've only experience and photographic evidence of the time on hand made stencilled badges. I understand this opinion can't help very much
this interesting matter, but I think we're all looking for a better knowledge
on this field.PaoloM
