My Granfather

My granpa, Infantry leutenant Giovanni Ricci (1907-1996) - Sardinia around 1940

Anyone can identify his hat's badge, unit?

For sure I know that after the armistice he didn't disband and since he was loyal to the King of Italy he left Sardinia with his unit and joined the "Kingdom of South" were he was reorganized in the Italian "Gruppo di Combattimento Cremona" attached to the British 8th Army, fighting on the adriatic coast until the end of the war.

He survived to be a father and granfather and he narrated in my childhood some of his wartime stories that still I fondly remember .

I’d say 21st Infantry Regiment Cremona. This unit was in Sardinia in 1941 , it operated in Corsica during 1942-43 and later merged with the Cremona Combat Group (an Italian cobelligerant formation that sided with the Allies).

Iteresting photo of captured MVSN troops in fort Umberto !...Italian East Afrika.
Note the Milita shield on the sleeve of the Bush jacket !..looks like a Militia zone shield ?

I love that photo , especially the turned down visor of the bustina. I believe the shield could be
one of the Divisional MVSN shields.

Hello Dennis yes i think as you say its more likely a CCNN div shield ..also yes the guy havin a smoke looks as if he dont care anymore !?..he 's enjoyin his ciggie !.

The Duce in typical pose watches 37mm A.T gun demo !...note the M42 stiff visor cap hes wearing !

Spotted this interesting photo of POWs but what struck me was the number of men wearing the M42 stiff peak visor cap !..also the mix of Continental uniform with tropical kit & note the use of leather leggins !?...iam thinking these are Caristi troops ?

From the same POW cage ..a good studie of M42 caps also , it seems a good card game is keeping every one focused !..
