Order of the Crown of Italy: are there post/pre-war differences?

    Dear all,

After their exile the Savoia family continued to issue the Order of the Crown medal. I was wondering if there is a difference between the pre-1946 issued ones and the 1946-1983 issues.
If there are, I am most interested in info on the differences on the Commander grade, as I am planning to purchase on for on a uniform.

I would appreciate any info and thank you for your time.

    Greetings,

    Hello Sparviero,

is possible only to find in this order differences of jewelery manufacturing (many have the
savoy knot and center in 14 kt gold) but the design in all period is the same; only the first
type of this order (1868/1870 aprox) have azure emamel (very rare) after this first time production
have only the dark blue enamel, don't exist differences about the post and pre war order design.
During the italian republic the citizens who had received the order before 2 June 1946 could
continue to use, with the particularity that the military ribbons with the crown to be replaced
by an star with five points.
This order, founded by the first king of Italy, finish with the death of King Umberto II in 1983.
    cheers, Raffaello

"six italians, dressed in rather unusual diving suits and equipped with materials of laughably little cost have swung the military balance of power in the Mediterranean in favour of the Axis".

      Dear Raffaello Carola,

      Thank you for your input.
Before your reply I bought the order already, as the price was really low compared for what I see it normally offered in my country. I believe the order is correct, compared with pictures in my books/internet, but I will post a picture if my internet at home allows me, just in case and I would ofcourse appreciate feedback.

Another niece feature (according the seller - trust the item, not the seller I know..) is that this medal comes from a US Colonel. On the medal a small number on cloth is attached: 85-A-139-27. Is this a US service number?

With the main medal, there was also a mignon in Commander class (with gold crown on the ribbon). The strange thing with this mignon, is that when I compare it with another mignon in Knight class in my collection this mignon is of worse (more rough) quality and more strange it is bigger then the other one.
As you mentioned that the only differences are caused by jewelry manufacturing, could above be a result of that?

      Greetings,

        Dear all,

Please find pictures of the medal (front and back)

Furthermore a picture of the mignon, compared with one of the knight class which is on the right.
Obvious are the differences in quality and size.

        I would appreciate any feedback.

            Hi Sparviero,
            your Cd'I are all Ok
The difference are probably only for different manifacturer and time of production (about 80 years only on Regno d'italia).
It was an order very common, with thousand people awarded every year.
Probably after 1946 was awarded previuos kingdom production. I don't know how many people was awarded fron 1946 to '80ies, but I think not so much.
I have bought two in a store of military supplies on 1988, there were remained in a drawer.
