My SS Dutch Proficiency Rune Badge in Bronze

I got this a while back haven't showed it here, but got it from a known Member and dealer here. I really like these badges, I think they are unique. The SS Sports badges were introduced by J.H. Feldmeijer, the leader of the Dutch SS, in 1942. They were intended to be awarded to Dutch SS men for proficiency in sport. Several sources (Mollo, Littlejohn and Dodkins) give differing details about the badges. In any case, it appears that there were 4 classes and this is an excellent example of the bronze class. The badge consists of a wreath, in the center of which are the double Sig runes of the SS. The reverse is marked "N.S.B. Nr. 127 P.G.R." The detail of the badge is superb! The leaves are sharply and clearly defined, the runes are delicately soldered to the wreath and the pin and catch are original and undamaged. The bronze finish is excellent, with slightly lighter bronze tone to the runes and the wreath's high points, and overall the badge is in near mint condition.

That is one very nice badge wouldnt mind one for my collection,ive got mostly german third reich tinnies and badges but am looking to add axis ones but dont seem to be very common over here in the UK.

Love the NSB Markings, as it seems that is what SHOULD be on them.

So much controversy surrounds this Badge, that it will be very interesting to see & read the input from others who have one in their Collection! ...Txs, Dave/dblmed

Absolutely brilliant badge, although I don't dare to say something about it's authenticity.
Simply because I never touched a real one with provenance.

There's but one thing I never could explain with these...

Why should an Algemeine SS badge have been marked with NSB?
That makes as much sense as marking a Waffen-SS medal with NSDAP.
The NSB didn't want to have something to do with the Dutch or Germanic SS.
Plus that it were completely different organisations.

So to be honest: I have my reservations about NSB marked Proficiency Runen.
Simply because it doesn't make sense.
But I am also very interested in eventual explanations for these markings!

IMHO a NSB marking on this badge does not make sense at all! (especailly looking to the relationship between the NSB and Dutch SS)

According my very humble opinion an original SS Dutch spport badge was never found.

The points made about the NSB are so relavent. This badge was instituted in late 1941. The 1942 award was the DRL BADGE. THE GERMAN PROFICENCE BADGE CAME INTO BEING IN 1943.

The next question to be aske is what dose NSB No 127 PRG mean? As it is found on the known fake for the war wounded badge, was this a NSB profe number? If so why were no othe NSB awards marked in the same manner. There are a lot of questions to be answered. David Littlejohn shows these badges in his second volume and clearly states page 117 "the accompanying photograph is of a post-war reproduction".

I remember Giel van Wassenhove somewhere showed a picture of a charter of the award, but I can't recall where it was and if it was a real charter or some sort of announcement...

SS Sport Award and

The SS Sport award is in:

Bronze – 20 – 30 year
Silver – 30-42 year
Gold – 42 year and older

The Sport Honor Award is in Gold

The eidence is strongly cast. These pieces are from a time after the war.
