    Hi Mark,

I think is an Major Pilot of Regia Aereonautica Italiana in photo
the medal is not clear, but have only five black stripes on the ribbon
the head of the King Savoy have the side face to the left IMO
99% is the Africa Abbisynia campagn medal the ribbon is black and
    light blue. Nice photo!
    regards

          Hello Raffaello,

isn´t it possible that it´s the Albanian Campaign Medal ?
Because it have the same profile of VE-head and the ribbons have red/ black stripes.

          Regards
          Timo

            more info

He is wearing the formal parade dress form of the service tunic, with the blue officer's sash, the senior officer's aigulettes (gold with blue flecks) and the heavily embroidered shoulder boards. It is difficult to make out what rank he is other than that he is a senior officer (major-colonel) because it is hard to see how many stars are on the boards. I also think the medal is the Albanian campaign medal based on the differences of light and dark. Cool picture.

              Dear Timo,

you have the same sensation of Tod Rathbone, the two medals
have a similar design of the head of the King Savoy Vittorio Emanuele III.
The difference is the ribbon SEVEN stripes black for Albania medal
FIVE stripes black for Abysinia medal.
How many stripes yours see on the ribbon in this photo?
              with friendship

my first idea of the rank is Major, on the embroidered shoulder boards I see
                        only one stars
