Royal Bulgarian army tanker's M43 cap.

    Hi all,
Posted here is a M43 type field cap used by the royal Bulgarian army(armor and artillery troops). The appearance is similar to German M43, or Finnish M36 field cap.

The body is made of coarse brown wool. The cap shows moderate wear and mothing in a couple of places. The metal national lion was once washed with gold but now the gild is almost gone.

This is a nice one! Just one thing, the lion was never gold washed, these badges were bare brass.

          Hi Theodor,
Thanks for your comment and information. The metal did not seem to be brass at first glance. and I thought that I saw the residue of gold wash on it(you can see some 'yellowish' spots on the badge). If I was mistaken, the brass simply rusted...... will check it again.

I think the reason is, this is not polished, cast bronze. The earlier lions are nicely polished and yellow color, but the later lions are just cast and the surface is grainy and looking some gray color.

              Theodor,
Many thanks for the clarification . I was definately mistaken. I thought that it was gold washed zinc because of the greyish 'grainy' surface, which much resembled oxidized zinc.
