Can anyone tell by the uniform that this Italian soldier is wearing what unit he was with? I am assuming that it is WWI.

His uniform does not look like Italian WW1. It looks more French.

Judging from the shape of the collar insignia, I would say this is post WWI. A close-up of the insignia might help identify the unit type.
