      Nice looking tunic more likely deserving of a Sportabzeichen.

        Nice tunic!

        Gebirgsjager and Jager continued wearing the older style straps throughout the war.

        Some examples;

        Oberfeldwebel Maier GJ.Rgt.13 in 1944 and a Jager NCO in 1943

            A nice Waffenrock conversion.

              Do not agree on the Sportabzeichen bit. This is clearly a converted Waffenrock so later war (this is not an early (GJ) tunic but a later war time conversion (1942/43/44)). Nothing wrong with a wound badge.

                No it is not. It's a M1928 reichswehr model field jacket, with dark green collar, early model chest eagle and early M35/36 dark green pointed shoulderboards added.
                This was not a waffenrock.

                  Correct and everything is fine with the tunic and insignia. The pointed early boards like this without branch piping were worn until the end of the war.

                    Why not? I think it would be more likely than a WWI wound badge.

                      Bjørn is 100% correct. This is not a converted Waffenrock as it does not have a mid-waist seam, nor 8 button front. Also, the tresse which looks totally period applied and shows consistent wear is correctly oriented for a tunic other than a Waffenrock meaning applied around the bottom of the collar vs along the top.

                      This is a nice period tunic that maybe had an EKII ribbon added as it does not sit as flat on the front and back as I would like to see. That being said, the tabs look period applied, the Edelweiss looks "welded" in as does the breast eagle, and I see no evidence that the straps were put in by anybody other than a very skilled tailor/seamstress. Put a nice early belt and buckle on it and brush off that little bit of funky white spotting at the rear and you'll have a bitchin' looking tunic.

                      Nice piece that should occupy a place of prominence in any collection. Love it! Bravo!

                        I stand corrected. I was unaware of the fact that the back of the M28 was nearly of the same construction as the Waffenrock. Thanks for the education.

                        Indeed a fine and rare early tunic.

                            +1 - no waist seam = no Waffenrock. Nice early tunic!
