Typically the letter indicating the location of the school is Gothic. I am not sure whether someone substituted a Latin letter for the proper Gothic letter or that a letter was added (postwar?) to a generic "US" device.

IMO it seems the Letter "E" is still very long on the boards. Please take a look on the patina! Is it possible the number "25" on the boards belong to the 25 on the identification dog

Here is an example using an embroidered Latin "E". As far as embroidery, I can see it being much easier to produce than the gothic letter.
