    M40 Signals Tunic

    These model 40 tunics did not come from the factory with first pattern tabs. They were sometimes added later (during the war) to enhance a walking-out tunic, though often added postwar as they are much easier to apply than the tabs that are directly sewn. It would be helpful to see the eagle.

      +1 to above. The soldiers preferred the earlier insignia and often swapped them out if they could. Not only for walking-out tunics but if back in the homeland for schooling or leave or convalescing and able to get their hands on the earlier insignia they would often apply it to their service tunics. They thought it looked smarter and also made them look more like an old hand.

        Sometimes the backed tabs were added right on top of the factory applied Litzen. I agree, it would be interesting to see the stitching on the breast eagle, to evaluate this.
