So, the punched hole in the tongue is a sign of a fake. I hadn’t known that.

I thought they were pretty “wonderful” too Augustin. Of course, it’s a bit disheartening how some members feel the need to express negativity yet, when asked to back up their stated, subjective, views with some corroborating research, they either ignore you or respond with smugness. If anyone on this forum understands research it’s you.

In the present instance we have folks alleging the cloth used in the construction of the boards (its nap) is “not what I like to see” thus, the inference ~ they’re fake. We have folks alleging the “the pips are suspect” and folks stating “I don`t like the punched button hole on the strap” and thus, the inference ~ they’re fake. I doubt if there’s any research that supports any of these allegations (beyond the respondent’s feelings) ~ last I checked something not being what someone “likes” to see or similar subjective, unsubstantiated, opinions doesn’t make something a post war fake which is the direct inference of these claims. I know this works well with the global warming cabal but I rather thought we carried out ‘real’ research here.

When one has the audacity to ask ‘why’ the pips are suspect ~ we get crickets. When one has the temerity to show other boards made of ‘different’ material than the commonly used badgecloth or show numerous examples period shoulderboards exhibiting the same “punched” hole for screw post buttons one gets “if you`re happy with them yourself, good for you.” Just my opinion of course, but being self-righteously content with one’s ‘correctness’ without feeling the need to back up one’s publicly made conclusions with anything more than “feelings” is the very definition of smugness (in case anyone misplaced their Dictionary).

As to Steiner99’s and Sonnenwende’s remark I would say ‘Thanx, I am happy with them’.

I share the distrust of the members commenting on the shoulder boards. I would recommend doing the burn test on one of the loose threads around the punched hole to at least rule out that it's not polyester, then I'd be more inclined to believe in them.

It reaacts to flame like any other wool fiber but like anything else presented, it’s probably not enough for the aforementioned experts. I’m sure (for them) the icecaps will still melt… ~ thankfully, I reside on high ground.
