Sun faded early DAK shoulderstraps with rosa waffenfarbe & hand sewn tresse

Another member gave me the opportunity and it was too hard to resist...

A nice set of sun faded Pz/PzJg Feldwebel straps. The tresse has been hand sewn. The pips each have one prong broken off and have been tightly sewn down onto the straps. The ghosts under the tresse and pips match the buttonhole ghost.

In the first/upper photo the upper strap has had it's outer stitch line on the tresse hand sewn by looping the thread over the tresse and underneath. This was done all the way around the outer edge and across the top of the attached tresse as well as up the inside stitch line to about the buttonhole. Then the tresse is attached by hand using a straight stitch inside the seam on the tresse to finish the interior circumference and also the lower stitch line across the attached tresse. The lower strap in the first photo only has the straight stitch line used for the entire tresse. Which implies the NCO/tailor added the tresse on the first strap by looping and then went to the easier straight stitch in transition.

Think it's alot easier see, than to try to explain...

Would like to hear everyone's thoughts on the shoulderstraps tresse, pips, fading etc and as always all comments are welcome ?

Fine originals Tim with no issues, but I've no doubt you already know that. Showing off new additions is fine.

Thanks for the compliment. With the extended piping feature. & the added piece of tresse that closes the U at the base of the strap being sewn at different angles on each of the straps. One strap has quite abit more faded material between the tresse and area where the tongue join is. Very fortunate to pick these up

Thanks Mark, coming from a DAK shoulderstrap connoisseur such as yourself means alot.
Have been really lucky in collecting DAK straps this year and last, thanks to a few good friends here on the WAF

Realize i posted the wrong photo of the reverse. Here is another showing the wool backing & the thread used to attach the pips a little better.

Hey Matt, good to hear from you. Glad you like them. In hand they have a real nice salmon color to them.
So which are they Pz or PzJg ? ala the ongoing green waffenfarbe debate's of the past, kidding of course:

Really appreciate all the help i've received from you Matt, & everyone here on the WAF over the years...Anyone else care to comment ?

As the DAK front has been slow on the WAF lately here is a study between naturally sun faded shoulderstraps and a set of chemically bleached straps.

The eventual shade reached is quite close between them. With the Bleached Art set a little more white than the naturallly faded Pz/PzJg straps. Also notice the fading on the underside of the tongues contrast. The actual bleaching agent has remained elusive over the years with different ideas such as the water decontamination tablets that were issued were chlorine based, or possibly the malaria medicine ? The Vet's recalled Losantin and petrol were mixed together to achieve the fading to bone white on the tunic's and caps.

Here is the original thread on the Art straps. As always all comments welcome ?
