ORDNANCE officer in a PANZER abteilung ....

should he wear red pink waffenfarbe on his feldbluse?? what's your opinion concerning this?

    #2
After June 0f 1944, ordnance waffenfarbe was ORANGE, with crossed cannon device.
I have a matching set of single black skull tab piped in ORANGE / single Leutnant
board with ORANGE waffenfarbe and crossed cannon device.
This came from Mike Pruetts collection in the mid 1970s .
The set has been photographed in the Pruett - Edwards book.
Or if interested, I can take a photo and post it here if requested.

One can assume that pre June 1944, Ordnance units in Panzer units would have worn black skull tabs and straps or boards with RED waffenfarbe.

Yes, they would wear their branch color as noted.

wow! would be nice to see those late war orange collar patches ...

so, an ordnance officer at ANY unit, prior 1944, would wear red waffenfarbe on tunic or panzer wrap.

        thanks for posting!

        any other point concerning this?

Chris summed it up precisely regarding the correct waffenfarben. Red then orange, with the crossed canons. I have an untouched wrap piped in orange tabs for ordnance branch.

I think there is a "translation" mistake here:

I guess the user above mentioned the so called "Ordonannzoffizier" within a Panzerabteilung. Some kind of an orderly officers - a clerk for the commander. He wore for sure pink.

no, I meant the officers in charge concerning the projectiles the tanks fired. that ones with crossed canons cyphers on their shoulder boards.

ok. You mean a "Waffenoffizier". As far as I know there was one such officer in the regimental staff but not in a Abteilung.

I must pass at this question. I am more familiar with prewar and the beginning of the war. Before 1939, the independent Panzer Abteilungs did not have one.

Your thread reminded me of this old one. The Waffen officers were specialists not really with a focus on ammunition etc. but also with more difficult repairs to gun mechanisms and barrels etc. They supervised Werkstattkompanie activities and more difficult repairs to weapons systems at regiment and division levels etc.

This is being discussed because of the one in the Ratisbon auction. I don’t have an issue with that tunic, seems like it’s alright to me. Matt
