    Rare sheep skin fur jacket?

I went into a normal antique shop and found this lovely sheep skin jacket. I have owned the equivalent german sheep skin coat in the past and the buttons are the same.

I have the book Winter Uniforms of the German Army and Luftwaffe in World War II - by Vincent Siegers

BUT I am completely unable to find any reference of it in books, or online. It has several german features such as:

    - Hook up by the throat

    - four german wood buttons

    - Sewn together with cloth strips

    Sadly no marking

    Has anybody seen this before?

Appears to be a full length mantel that was cut down.

That could be but then it would have been more of a tailoring job as there are more buttons and loops, there is a strip at the bottom that defines the lower part of the jacket. No signs of cutting.

Its all possible...could have been made in this fashion..never seen that..or cut down and unit modified. Your have it in hand so know best...I like these jackets...problem is they are very heavy.and the hide/outer shell becomes quite fragile..and will tear like paper if you grab it the wrong way..happened to me once. They never really seemed to fetch a lot of money. Just bulky and hard to store and keep.

You are right Scott. These sort of clothes are very fragile. I used to own a coat that was very badly worn and had lots of holes. It surprised me that this jacket was in such good condition. There are no tears. The trick is to not handle it too roughly.

I posted it on GHW and someone said it most likely was a private purchase tailoring job. Who knows, it might be both a previous coat and a tailoring job, but in any case it is done very well. I can tell by the details that it was done professionally.

Im not really looking for a profit on this. I have an idea to combine it with a m43 cap on a mannequin with a G43 rifle and scope. A bit like major König in enemy at the gates
