    Artillery NCO Waffenrock

I am looking at possibly picking up this Artillery NCO Waffenrock.
Can I get some opinions please. I would assume the eagle has been replaced and I am never sure about numbers on shoulderstraps. There are no award loops on the jacket.

    Any help appreciated

You're probably right about the eagle but still a very nice jacket. A good one to own if the price is okay.

Even though it is an EM jacket, it is not unusual to see that it has a bullion eagle. That was often an upgrade to private tailored pieces.

It looks nice. If its under $700, I'd say its a great deal.

I agree with Rolf D. Since it is a private (tailor made) purchase Rock, then an upgraded, hand-applied eagle is normal, even expected. It's then a judgement call on whether period applied or not.

As for the regimental numbers, one aide that we often have is a unit acceptance stamp on the interior lining. Check for that. Private purchase garments were supposed to be approved for wear by the unit and would be stamped at the time of that acceptance. I say supposed, because it didn't always happen.

If the numbers on the acceptance stamp and boards match, then you have a winner. If they don't match... you still might be good. Check Lexikon der Wehrmacht to see if the unit on the stamp changed into the unit on the boards.

I have a very early piped walking out tunic like that. The acceptance stamp is different from the numbers on the boards, but a little research revealed that the battalion of the regiment on the stamp went to the regiment on the boards a couple years later. So my tunic makes perfect sense by tracking the unit history.

Flipped through your photos again and noticed the tailor's label is in Dutch. Interesting.

And deduct 75 bucks for cleaning from handling coat with filthy fingers
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

Look inside the breast pocket and two rear vent pockets and see if there is a name tag with the tailors name ?

Personally I do not care for the sloppy application of the tailor label.

that was part of my "interesting" remark. Not only in Dutch, but looks like someone other than a professional tailor - who would want their label to look immaculate - applied it. I do have a Waffenrock in my collection dated after Holland would have been conquered, but I really don't think any Wehrmacht Soldaten were ordering custom Waffenroecke after the occupation of Holland... in Holland.

Overall though, the tunic looks basically fine. May have been fiddled with a bit, but still basically good.

Now I look at that label more it is very sloppy in application, the current owner says thats how it was when he got it. Well the price is $580, so it isn't expensive.

Lenny , yes it does come from the same person who had the dirty fingers in my other thread
