    Gebirgsjaeger Edelweis badge......two holes?

    Hi,
    Can anybody please advise me about Gebirgsjaeger Edelweis badges with two holes (on the petals) for stiching rather than one hole? (see attachment).
    Are these post war with two holes or just another version of the wartime Edelweis?
    Thanks in advance,
    Terry.

    These pieces are not original. The stems on original ww2 pieces are not curved. They are post war.

      Edelweiss stems

      Hi John,
      Thanks for getting back to me.
      Sorry, I don't quite understand.
      You say that the stems on originals are not curved, but the stems of these two are not curved either?? Or, do you mean the very bottom end of the stem where it joins the leaves?

        These are POSTWAR.
        The Leaf meets the second petal;
        Wartime meets FIRST petal.

          Wartime one with straight "stick", also wartime ones have 5 holes, postwar ones 4 holes:

          BTW, cap insignia should be in the cloth headgear section

            The badges you have are original Austrian army worn after WWII. The Austrian Bundesheer and German Bundeswehr badges are almost identical, except that the Austrians have two holes per petal, instead of one. Interesting too, the Austrians wear there Edelweiss leaning forward while the Germans wear it leaning towards the rear.

            I have never found out why the Germans re-designed the badge, nor why the Austrians adopted the [almost] identical design.
