Need info about an unusual GREYCOAT

I got a massive greycoat. It weighs 5.75 kg.
    It has leather reinforcements.
Inside there is a thick layer of sheep wool.
There is also a «hat» under the collar that can be rolled in and out.
Does anyone knows what model this greycoat are and is it unusual?

Yes it does Andy Thank you. But what model could it be?
Would you happen to know if it is unusual or not?

Official name is "Mantel für Fahrer vom Bock" - coat for drivers (sitting) on (horsedrawn vehicles) seat.

At first look it looks like the regular guardscoat, but (apart from the leather applications - also exists without) its much wider, for comfortable seating.

It's a Wachmantel, look the leather trims to reinforce the shoulders...
The coat for drivers is the ubermantel. It hasn't the leather trims ...

I saw one of those years ago and at that time it was referred to as a "Sentry Greatcoat". It's warmth would be of benefit to poor soldiers standing sentry duty out in the cold.

However, that sentry designation could have just been "collector lore" and I would not argue with those members who know the official terminology.

As you can see there are also buttons on the lower backside.
If it was designed for riding bikes/horses etc this make sense, as it would be alot easier sitting on a horseback/motorcycle if the coat could be splitted.
                    Just my opinion though

It actually is an Ubermantel as noted above. You can tell by the additional pockets. It replaced the Wachmantel and Pelzmantel and was worn over the regular greatcoat for sentry duty etc. These were made with blanket and fur lining and fur lining was added to issue wool lined coats.

Thanks. To me this sounds like the most correct answer.
Is it common or are they hard to find? Need to know to decide a price as I will put it on the E-stand

                          You got it!
No need for this feature at a guards coat...

During the War and with German collectors they mistakenly refer to all the coats Wachmantel and it has been directly just translated into English. These coats were used for guard duty and were the only heavy winter clothing they had early in the first winter. Officers wore them like the photo above as warmer winter clothing etc. Like most things in the military often they are not only used for what they were intended for.
