Grossdeutschland Infantry boards

Hi all,
Please find following a couple of GD boards. They are not a matching pair but are close enough to go into my collection as a pair. Has anyone any ideas of the slight staining/colouring around one? Is it true that somes boards were re-purposed during the war from one unit to the next? Possible following that soldier from one unit to another. Infantry-Artillery-Panzer etc?
