PLEASE HELP with Feldgendarmerie cut-off

Dear Forum Members,

Can I please request your opinion on this cut-off? As can be observed, it is zig-zag stitched to a cut feldgrau wool like an M-36 field tunic wool. Does this look legit? and is this indeed Heer Feldgendarmerie or regular Rural Police?

This is indeed a Heer Feldgendarmerie eagle.

Many of these eagles have been found un-issued; it is my assumption this is one of those sewn on a piece of cloth to increase value.

I agree, IMO most of the "cut off" insignia is unused insignia sewn to wool to increase value. In the 1970s and 80s you rarely saw "cut offs" but lots and lots of unused insignia.

Now you see many of these and loose insignia is not common. Between restored uniforms and these it is not hard to figure out where much of the loose insignia probably went.

I like this piece, as for the comment about cut-off insignia being just loose insignia sewn to cloth to increase value...if you study correct sewing methods that tends to help determing authenticity.

I have been collecting since the 1970s and have studied plenty of tunics and sewing methods. People who are faking cuts offs are also fully aware of the period sewing methods, use period wool, thread and in many cases period machines.

It is impossible to tell or in most cases nearly impossible. The most common mistake they make is to use a modern wool that is much higher quality then the wartime and prewar fabrics or a polyblend.

Thanks everyone, I think this is indeed an "un-issued" piece that has been sewn onto a piece of fabric to increase desirability. I compared it to the fabric on my M36 combat tunic, and it is different. Specifically, the fabric with this eagle is of a different blend and weight than the one on my M36. This one will be going back to the individual that had offered it to me.
