    White Officer Summer Tunic

I have recently acquired this tunic, complete with badges. It had been in a collection for decades. The tunic is fitted for a screw back Iron Cross. It is a five button tunic with hooks under the collar. The shoulder boards are for the 5th cav/recon. Is there any way to identify potential soldier for this Lieutenant Colonel rank tunic?

The German Cross came with the tunic, as did the other awards. Supposed all these are original to the tunic, but I cannot prove this.

    Thank you for any help.

Very nice silver summer uniform eagle with great finish by Assmann IMO (some are marked "A" in lower right wing on back)

Bob, this may help a little: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...nter/KavR5.htm

The regiment was disbanded on general mobilization in 1939, so if the owner won the DKiG and RK, it was with another unit. I have never seen a five button summer tunic before!

            Hi Bob,

It looks like a very nice tunic. I will look into names for you.

The dress tunics like this can be tricky with higher ranks as officers and enlisted/NCOs were allowed (and often did) to wear dress tunics of their peacetime units.

This soldier may have been an Lt. with KR-5 when it was disbanded in 1939 and continued to wear the insignia of the disbanded unit throughout the War with upgrades of rank and awards yet have been in a completely different unit.

This was very common to see for Cavalry officers as they were very proud of the units and Cavalry traditions.
