Sleeveless wet weather overcoat. No military markings inside. but has a military style look to it. Looks like something that might have been private purchase. or just for civilian use. Would say it is pre-1945. Possibly 1930's. It has silver pebbled buttons, and is Berlin made if the markings are anything to go by. It's a grey duck type material. and is a pretty heavy foul weather coat. Picked it up in Germany many decades ago. Has anyone seen another like it? Any replies most appreciated.

That is indeed an early post war Berlin police = "Polizeipräsidium Berlin" (PP) property stamp. Item could be older still....but certainly post war marked and used!
(War time Polizei would have been marked "Po" or sometimes "Pol"....+ date of course)
Design-wise it appears to be a genuine war time (private purchase ) army officers rain cape I believe...so pressed into service after the war for Polizei use...There were lots of shortages!
The shiny pebbled buttons might be a Polizei modification?
These were also used by the East German military (regenumhang) but marked NVA with plastic buttons!Last edited by NickG; 07-06-2017, 10:29 PM.
