    Tropical Edelweiss

Thought I would show this new one just in- a very rare insignia but alos very interesting as this one is attached to a piece of tropical tunic and appears to be a legit cut off.

Perhaps this would indicate that some of these were worn later in the war on the southern fronts and Italy??

    Hope you like it!

I was under the impression these tan edelweiss insignia were related to SA...(for their tan colored uniforms)
and in Africa regular army green backed (continental) edelweiss insignia was always used...
So original cut off ? and proof that it was used also in that theatre or assembled like this?
    It sure looks legit!!!

Thanks guys- I don't think there any photos known if this insignia in wear on either army or SA tunics.

They certainly weren't worn in Africa as plenty of photos show the standard green version being worn. This cut off appears genuine to me and also has glue remnants on the back which adds to its believability.

My guess would be that some of these were worn late in the war on tropical army tunics on southern fronts.

Does anyone know how the SA link was established?

Nice original, there is one photo here somewhere on the forum with the tropical edelweiss still attached to a tunic from the Italian Campaign. Agree not in Afrika.

Here's a thread on these! It does appear to be a period cut off. I noticed the glue stains as well, so ex-photo album! Very cool!

Btw the SA use reference was probably just an assumption within the collecting community since no period Africa pictures exist of these ever being worn...at least not in that DAK theatre...and the tan matches SA color uniforms...
but it is clearly an army design. These are also being faked as the above thread shows!
