Dual horizontal award loops on a waffenrock

    Hello all,

I have a Colonel (Kav. Regiment 6 Commander) with dual horizontal award loops on the tunic. Is this for the choice of wearing either his medal bar or ribbon bar or is this for two separate ribbon bars?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have just a parade bar on him on display in my collection but it would be interesting to know why there are two sets of loops.

The loops are for two ribbon bars ("kleine Ordensschnallen" or "Feldspangen"), when the Waffenrock is worn as "kleiner Dienstanzug", "Meldeanzug", "Ausgehanzug" or "kleiner Gesellschaftsanzug". The medal bar ("Große Ordensspange") is worn with the "Paradeanzug" and "großer Gesellschaftsanzug".

      Best regards

from what I understand the 6 Cavalry Regiment was basically broken up by the time the war came around so I don't believe that is plausible.

They were allowed to wear their dress tunics from their last peacetime unit. This especially was common to see with the cavalry units. They upgraded their rank etc. as the War went on.

Bill - could be for two ribbon bars, or one set for the ribbon bar and the other for the medal bar depending upon which was worn.
