Gebirgsjaeger is my favorite branch of the Heer!
The Edelweiss is the most distinctive insignia of the GJ,
and your sleeve patch is original wartime issue, a common variation
used from prewar years throughout the war.
There are dozens of variations of the Edelweiss badge and are fun to collect!
When time permits, I'll send photos of mine.
