    NCO HBT Tunic for opinions

Good day all. Recently acquired tunic from a WAF member. I had a good experience w/ the seller but it is my first tunic. Therefore, putting it up for comments.. I would greatly appreciate a couple thumbs up. To me it looks right, smells like it has been in storage for a while. Also wondering if the eagle is period applied. Already love it. Hope you all can help. -Greg

    Hello,

This appears to be a Reichsheer moleskin summer tunic. The collar tabs are incorrect. I would like to see a better front on shot of the eagle. These uniforms did not come with an eagle.

      Greg,

Fred is correct on all counts, but this is still a nice looking tunic. The eagle is appropriate for this era of tunic after the Wehrmacht was established and it appears to be the only one that has been on it based on the view of the interior.

I seem to remember a tunic similar to this being posted for sale not too long ago as it had the early pointed boards. I don't know if you have a theme you're going after in terms of what the tunic would represent for you, but this is not a combat tunic. It is more appropriate to be used as a nice example of a walking out tunic circa 1935/36 due in large part to the design of the lower pockets (being hidden with flaps positioned at an angle - characteristic of the Reichsheer pattern with 6-button front).

Find a nice quality belt, an early aluminum buckle that retains nearly all of its detail, and a teller-form visor and you'll have a righteous display.

After that you can start on an M-36, then an M-40, M-41, ...... and the sickness will continue to metastasis

      Regards!

Thanks all, as you are all much more well informed then I am. The theme/area I was looking for was a combat used tunic. I am a little disheartened as I thought that is what I had. Yes, good looking tunic. Missed the incorrect collar tabs through inexperience (I seen the zig-zag stitching as common on other tunics) I hope that is still holds the value that I paid for it. Yes the tunic has the chain stitched "94" pointed boards. It was on e-stand a month or so ago. I have tried to take a few better pictures of the eagle. They are below. Again thanks for your help....

          NCO Moleskin Tunic for opinions

With regards to this tunic just a few comments. It is indeed a Reichsheer moleskin summer tunic rather than a combat tunic. And far harder to come by. It is depot stamped and I believe 1942 dated. It is a tunic period modified for a well decorated senior NCO and as such the collar insignia and eagle are period applied and perfectly right for this specific tunic as that is the way he had it modified. The pics aren't doing this tunic justice. With the 1942 date it can easily be dressed up with later cap and WW2 combat awards. Upon close examination of the collar and eagle application it is absolutely evident that they were period applied. Maybe some pics of the markings can be uploaded.

So you didn't "Miss the incorrect collar tabs".

          Thanks, Mark.

            Hello,

From the pictures shown I saw a Reichsheer moleskin tunic. These tunics came without eagle but did have moleskin backed tabs and moleskin boards.

I am surprised that the tunic has a date in the 40's. I had always believed that production was stopped on these in mid 30's and existing stocks used up. Can you please post images of the depot marks? Thanks.

If issued in the 20's-30's , this is the insignia that would have come with it.

The enlisted BeVo eagle is appropriate for this tunic.

Never seen a 42 dated Moleskin. Awesome.

                  I have a novice question

I have looked at a number of other combat tunics and many have the 4 belt suspension hooks that I assume are used to distribute the weight of ammunition pouches, canteen, bayonet, field gear etc. Why go to the extra effort to include these on a walking out uniform that would not be used in the field?

                    Hello,

Usually a walking out uniform was your best issue uniform.

                          Thank you for the pic.
The lining material location shows some differences with commonly seen earlier Reichsheer moleskin tunics.
                          Interesting tunic indeed.

Like Waffenrocks etc. I think the base tunic itself might have been "recycled" from earlier stocks and reissued after minor changes to the configuration. I have seen the restamping in Waffenrocks and there were low production issues of four pocket tunics M40M41 pattern tunics made from RH moleskin.

I agree with Johnny and for one would be happy to have this one in my collection. No way to prove it and I can't see the actual rank since the shoulder straps are not displayed, but it's believable to me that an RH to mid-30s era NCO/EM took this tunic either produced in RH times or in 1942 from RH era moleskin and had it turned into a nice semi-dress tunic. I wouldn't classify it as a dress only tunic, but more like one he would wear in garrison when doing non-tactical training duties. Both IR 94 and it's same numbered replacement regiment reflagged as grenadier regiments 94 in mid October 1942. It would be plausible for an NCO who had been with one of these regiments since they were formed in the mid-30s to use this to proudly display his awards and earlier style shoulder boards while doing duties such as training or observing troops practicing drill and ceremony, firing on rifle ranges, classroom training, etc.
