Not Feeling It on This One: Supposedly Vetted on WAF?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/German-Heer-...gAAOSww9xZEK8k

I can't find any threads vetting this set, and I am not really liking what I see from the pics. Anybody remember this?

I remember seeing photos of this tunic right after it was gotten from the vets family, in Delaware, I believe. When sent photos, I did give my positive opinion. Everything looked fine for a tunic that was named to a colonel, I believe, and period upgraded to general. If there is something wrong, I cannot see it.

Some of the oddities I noticed with this tunic:

      1. Strange ribbon bar with no Spange to the WWI EK2 ribbon.

      2. Photo shows the Officer with a WWI EK2 buttonhole ribbon & Spange.

      3. Tunic has a WWII EK2 buttonhole ribbon, which is incorrect.

      4. Cross straps for belts were abolished in late 1939.

      5. Description states the eagle is stunning but there is no eagle.

Bob, thanks for your input. I always have a hard time trusting the typed name tags. Tim, it says the belt and strap were not part of the original set. Looks like they photoshopped the Dirty Bird out of the picture. Thought it interesting that the seller didn't mention that Heidkämper was a RK winner in addition to the DKiG. The EKII ribbon is a mystery, and I am pretty sure that the tunic in the photo is not the same one being offered for sale as the second button hole sits lower on the tunic than the one in the photos.

I do not think the tunic in the photo is the same, but have not seen the tunic in hand.

Here are a couple of photos I received back in 2011. Gorgeous eagle that matches the tabs and boards.

I don't remember seeing this particular tunic up for discussion in the past? Regardless, there are many things which would cause me to steer away from this offering. I really don't like the application of the collar tabs...., I think I even see the outline of ghost stitches along the leading edge and parallel to the top of the collar.... which is where I would think the tabs should have been originally?

I don't think it was ever up for discussion on WAF. The tunic is named when the soldier had not yet made the general rank. The ghosts would have been from his regular officer collar tabs. Although not the best collar tab sewing job I have ever seen, it look believable to me. When the promation was made and where he was would have a lot to do with the sewing. Sadly, the stitch police collectors were not there to supervise.

I have no personal financial interest in this garment and just gave my opinion, for what it is worth.

Bob, do you recall if it had the breeches with it when it came from the vet or not?

Well, I would have to say I feel better about the set now. Heidkämper got into WWI in September 1918, so it is conceivable he may have won the EKII in the first World War, so the EKII ribbon is probably not original to the tunic. Bob's trouser pics look good. I wonder if what the seller refers to as a "repair" on the collar is actually where the loops for the RK were added (see Bob's post #8). Anyone have details beyond what's in Lexicon dR or other photos? I was not convinced that the photo provided is actually Heidkämper after what I had read, until I saw the one here: http://piccy.info/view3/10968143/49f...4c4735dbe5bf2/, where he has an EKII Spange.
