It was sometimes worn with a waistband to make it look like it was manufactured in two pieces. The sad part is I actually show an example of the dress in the book, but labeled it as a work smock. Blame it on stupidity. Here are some photos of Patrick’s dress that were shown in the book. It is manufactured from a sturdy cotton or linen, with detachable buttons. It was never issued and has no signs of insignia.

However it looks different from the Heer version. Notice the collar and he belt (or waistband). Its difficult to tell but the one on the right appears to have pockets.

My translation for the caption under the picture is that they were not being newly issued the dresses, the dresses and insignia applications were being inspected for compliance with regulations and conformity. Sachenappell is an older term used for an inspection. This fits well with the stories I heard that when they started there were many issues about women's clothing not being uniform and this being a large complaints of officers etc. etc. This is an image and caption showing they were taking conformity and uniform appearance seriously with the statement "Ordnung muss sein!"

Thank you for the translation. That actually makes more sense because of the black ties. The ties weren't worn with the dresses. A lot of the problems with women's clothing was due to shortages. Initially the Signal Auxiliaries were issued clothing from Red Cross Stocks. I think as the war progressed they turned more and more to using work dresses and civilian clothing especially within Germany and in parts of Poland.

Hi
Love the ariticle it's great some one documents all the rare and obscure uniforms
it was total war everyone involved,the uk was the same when involved in all services
