It certainly seems to be the exact same type of tunic. I doubt it is a fake but what it is I am not sure.

True! It would be useful to see the stamps and insignia on UWO's Sanität's tunic. If the insignia is, as stated, original to the tunic then it does suggest that they were in use by Heer units, even if they were originally destined for another branch of service.

The Schirrmeister patch on Johnny R's (ex?) tunic would also be interesting to see in more detail.

I do not own that tunic, I never did. The images were sent to me and I posted them. But- now I remember where I saw the markings before. The gray tunic is identical to the one you posted and is an original wartime uniform item.

In the 2007 thread, we were talking about HSC fakes which are a different material not the grey jackets like yours.

Someone in France was selling it with matching pants but I did not buy it for some reason or it sold. I do not remember. I own the yellow example that was posted earlier in this thread.

It is very interesting to see the example on this old thread for several reasons. The matching trousers are modeled on Heer pattern tropical trousers with built-in belt. Also, this jacket shows the original collar and six button front, The depot stamp(?) now clearly appears to be "FM" (perhaps Frankfurt Main) which is not a Heer stamp I am familiar with. These are interesting examples and perhaps some member has one with it's factory insignia.

The pants are actually HBT, the jacket was a different fabric but the colors were identical. Very rarely I have also seen wartime produced HBT jackets and pants that are US Army olive drab color. Everything is identical to normal HBTs except the color. I was told by WWII German vets that low number productions were made of tunics in odd fabrics like this and issued. This probably is the basis for the Crete and Balkan tunic stories.

The low production run was the conclusion I was coming to. Of the three examples available, all are 42-dated and at least two are Ffm marked. The FM depot mark is interesting and Frankfurt am Main seems the best explanation at present.

I think but am not sure that KM also was issued clothing using this fabric. I do not collect Navy items but am pretty sure I have seen the same cloth used.

Don t know if i m the only to have noticed, but there is no nco tress on the collar......
It seems to be a soldier jacket or an officer's one......
Can t imagine a senior nco without this element.....

It is a senior officer candidate, just passed his state-exam, and he is an "Unterveterinär".

But sorry, the threadstarter has the configuration without tresse..

Hi Turenne. I had wondered about this when I first received the tunic, however I have seen similar examples over the years - both in period photos and uniforms in collections - where there hasn't been a match between the collar and epaulettes. Of course, as has been indicated in the earlier comments, it may also be the case that these boards were added post-45.

                        Regards,
                        Michael
