Hi.,

red painted shoulderboards cypher for Artillery-Regiment.
Such cyphers were sometimes worn by enlisted soldiers on their shoulderboards instead of the red woven cyphers.
The woven cyphers were removed from the boards with the outbreak of the war for secrecy, but were again worn later in the war.
