Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone have a photo of the type of windjacket you mean? Am I correct about it being Jäger?
Too bad no info came along with it, as there was a Jäger Battalion in my area, and it would be much more interesting if it could be attached to this local history.

It is described in detail in early 1939 reference books..

Most examples I have were made (and presumably issued) shortly thereafter in 1940.

I presume the Windjacke shoulder boards were first authorized in 1936 and probably were issued with the jackets in 1937 to 1941 but that is an assumption on my part.

FYI: I have a set of Windjacke shoulder boards embroidered to the 140. Gebirgsjäger Regiment that was only in existence from August 1938 to March 1940. So that confirms the Windjacke shoulder boards were being produced at least in that relatively early period.

Later shoulder boards seem to have been hard to get so the troops resorted to M-36 dark green or even grey wool boards or none at all.

Manufacture of the Windjacke may have ceased in 1942/43. I do not see any examples with late manufacturing dates. The three pocket Anorak probably was the replacement. Easier to make, cheaper cloth and arguably more functional design. Troops continued to make the popular Windjacke out of Russian, Italian and German shelter or tent material until the end of the war."

Thanks guys, and I guess mine would probably have been a Gebirgsjäger, not a Jäger, considering the garment it was to be worn on.

The wind jackets were first issued in the RH to mountain troops during the 1920s following a civilian pattern skiing and climbing jacket. They were originally a bone color and then later were made in the dull green.

I had a 136th Regiment as well that was identical.

The later boards were built with rayon tongue backings instead of the silky rayon, and still had the wool backing which appears to be a feature on all of these boards.

Waffenreich, that's an interesting board you posted.

Thanks Rob, but "interesting" on this site to me is synonymous with "sketchy". I'm sure that's not what you mean though

136 and 138 boards looks 100% to me and very nice. I have seen a set like embroidered that for 99 GJR as well.
