    Panzer Shoulder Boards for review

Are these ok? I thought they weren't at first but they look close to a pair marked sold at $350 on a dealer website.

      Panzer Grenadier Regiment 5

As best I can tell from the photos, they look to be original boards that were not issued and have storage wear. The unit would be Panzer Grenadier Regiment 5 of the 12.
      Panzer Division.

I hope someone didn't piss away 350 on those boards, they are probably like 120-150 dollar boards...

          Humm...
Top "Russia Braid" appears to be metallic silver and the slip on configuration
are usually indicative of Luftwaffe (or Schutzpolizei).
The "5" is in silver, rather than gold, as you'd expect for an officer rank
(although certainly not an ironclad rule).
I agree with Glen about them being original, but I doubt that they are Heer.
$350 on a dealer's site? No serious shoulder board collector would consider them
          at that price!!

The numbers look to have heavy oxidation. Can you tell if any trace of gold or silver wash remains on them?

I am pretty sure these were silver. IMO the original finish is visible on the top part of the five to the left and the bottom of the 5 to the right. Just having silver numbers is not a big deal but with all the concerns mentioned, I am not real sure I would even be paying 100 USD for these unless they were part of a solid grouping etc.

As per regulation and rule of thumb, I agree with you about the "Russia Braid".

The chaotic supply situation of the Wehrmacht always brought about uniform wear regulation exceptions as are documented in several instances. (RKT Herbert Dueppenbecker's wearing GJ Kragenspiegel as a Pz. Gr. officer comes to mind) Recently, I purchased a small lot of insignia for a Pz. Gren. Leutnant. It came in a small cigar box and I assume he had put it in there post war. Among the items, a sew-in pair of Leutnant boards with subdued Russia braid, Offizier Kragenspiegel, sleeve rank for a camo uniform, and a pair of slip on Lt boards with bright shiny Russia braid. If you saw them by themselves you would swear they were Luftwaffe. Could someone have put this lot together to sell...it is possible; but, they went to a lot of effort for not much gain.

Perhaps this type officer's board was available for the leather greatcoat?

Heer officers wore shiny braid removable boards on white summer tunics as well but these boards to me just looks a bit odd.

First impression was LW boards with an addition of the cypher to appear to be PzGr.

What Luft Boards would be that color?

LW Field Divisions used "Jager green" for infantry.

Looks like typical Polizei (SchuPo) boards to me (with shiny tops). I have several sets...Without the cypher maybe 80 bucks on a good day!
