      Paul.

i belevie you did very good on that tunic.

The price was a very nice collector price and it looks really nice.

Its actually quite amazing it took so long for it to sell on estand, i guess people prefer restored hero-christmas trees.

Daniel/ Frank/ Arthur, many thanks for the kind comments!

Daniel, you are right it did sit for a while on the E-Stand, it was only because I was obsessively looking for an M43 that I didn't buy it sooner! However, as Borg and Huart (authors of the Feldbluse book) state, the M42 only seems to appear at the front (in wartime pictures) from the summer of 1943, so it fits into my 1943+ interest area! I also thought it looked a bit 'battered' in the original E-Stand listing, but it looks a lot better in hand, just honest wear.

I've added a picture that is quoted in some parts of the web as showing German prisoners captured at Kursk (with one soldier being shown wearing an M42 blouse), although I can't be 100% sure that is the case. Either way, Borg and Huart quote that Kursk is the first time that the M42 is seen in wartime pictures, at the front-line. However, the book was published in 2006 and earlier examples may have been discovered since then? Of course, to be at the front-line in July 1943, the M42 must have been working it's way into use some months earlier (manufacturer to Depot to Unit etc).

            Best regards, Paul

Looks good Paul, some honest wear just like in the photo posted! I think it looks much better in your photos than the photos from the listing.

                  Regards,
                  -Steve

Thanks again guys! It's always nice when you unpack something and it looks better than you thought it would, it can also be the other way around sometimes!

                      Regards, Paul

Great tunic and even better photography and documentation. I would recommend this thread being pinned as a reference for the M42. Nice pickup.
