    116th Panzer Traditions Badge

Picked this up with an assortment of misc US/TR insignias, believe it was a vet bring-back but can't confirm it for sure. The other TR pieces have thus far been good, and I believe this one to also be good, but of course feedback is always appreciated

Prongs were removed and holes punched in the sides, presumably to be stitched to a cap. Doesn't have the sharp elbows that seem to cause so much controversy. What do you guys think...good one? I've never owned a traditions badge before

    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the good news, gentlemen

How common were these? I've read that some traditions badges were only approved for wear by troops who were with the units at certain times, and in some cases entries were even made into the soldbuchs. What was the criteria for a member of the 116th to rate to wear one of these traditions badges?

Additionally, does anyone have any images of this particular type badge in wear? I haven't been able to find much

Great images, Nick! Thanks for sharing.

What criteria did members have to meet to be authorized to wear it?

All members of the 116th "Windhund" Division with order from October 25, 1944

Would they receive these in the "Erstatz und Ausbildungs" Einheit?
                      (replacement and training unit)
or only later, when they were sent to the front line based "Windhunden" Division unit?

One had to be in a regular Windhund (116.PzDiv.) unit - not Ersatz or training unless temporally sent back to Ersatz from 116. PzDiv.

Very interesting stuff...glad this topic is turning into such an educational discussion!

Interesting that a unit that was at Normandy would be approved a unit badge after what must certainly have been, in the eyes of the German command, quite an embarrassment

Yes I figured so..so after recruit boot camp and after "unit boot camp"
(staff would wear them while further training the new recruits)
and indeed it was logged in the Soldbuch, the issuance of these.
