OK - Need SOme Help With a Karteikarte and Beurteilungen...

All, after months of searching and the assistance of Herr Grandi in Italy, I have found the Karteikarte and Beurteilungen for Oberstleutnant Ewald Heinrici (http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...Ewald+Heinrici) for 1943-45, which tells an interesting story from what I have been able to decipher. I am stumped by some of the abbreviations and I hope that some of the native German speakers and those who are good with German abbreviations may be able to fill in some of the blanks.

First, the Karteikarte:

The first entry implies he was in Führer Reserve and then went to a Pz. Grenadier Regiment of the Hermann Göring Division - is that correct?

Then back to Führer Reserve July 19 1943 after Sicily?

It looks like Heinrici ran afoul of Paul Conrath of the HG Division for actions in Sicily and was court-martialed in January 1944. Am I correct in that he was acquitted?

Also, I can't find evidence of any Heer units being directly under the command of the HG during Operation Husky, so can anyone guess why Conrad brought the court martial charges?

The remainder of the Karteikarte is where it gets fuzzy for me as it is in Sütterlin. Could someone please try to translate?

My question, then, is given his court martial (did Heinrici request trial by court-martial to clear Conrath's negative review?) and Conrath's scathing comments, it appears that Heinrici was rehabilitated to some degree and passed the Regimental Commander's course in March 1944, yet from what I can translate in the Karteikarte, he remained in Führer Reserve for the remainder of the war, or am I missing something? I have to wonder if Heinrici was scapegoated by the HG for soem of their failures during the battle for Sicily.


Any help much appreciated - I love to discover the story behind the uniform!

Your first 3 questions "yes". A quick version on 12.4 .44 Kommandiert to Pz. Truppen Schule II then moved to Fuehrer Reserve on 15.12.44 in Wehr Kreis VIII and ernannt as commander of a Replacement Staff in the Wehr Kreis. 12.1.45 versetzt to the Fuehrer Res. OKH. I've left out details but someone will fill them in as I have to leave.

See if there are some friction marks on the tunic at the level of the navel. That probably indicates he played an accordion and Conrath did not think he was very good at it.

If his file is held in NARA it should be be in A3356 Roll 292 which covers Heinrich, Paul ― Heinz, Heinrich.
