Help Requested on Shoulder Boards

This weekend a friend gave me a couple small boxes full of (primarily) U.S. military photographs, documents, insignia and personal correspondence. These German items were also in one of the boxes, and I'd like help with the shoulder boards.

Are these genuine (bring-back) - and if so what unit are these from?

These are supposed to be M40 Infanterie shoulder straps from a Grossdeutschland related unit. I do have serious reservations about them being original though.

Here is an original pair. Notice the differences in the embroidery, piping, buttonholes and general construction.
