The silver tresse has yellowed with age. I have seen this also happen in smokers collection over long periods of time is uniforms were on display.

The white piping on the upper strap pictured has a fair amount of tan staining on it and I, too, think it is the off-white style Tresse which may have been treated with tea or coffee or ? and is not tropical Tresse. Take a close look.

This is a possibility too, I can see what you saw on the edges of the board piping and also the color. It does look like something was applied to the tresse.

Yes aged and discolored indeed. I have a tunic exactly like that but this one is so severe that it borders tropical....my initial thought...
Now with the detailed image it is clear that this tresse was silver at one time.
It is proof that the straps have been on it a long time and most likely original to the tunic.
