    Panzergrenadiere Different Colours

    Hi folks,
    Could some one tell me please why this Panzergrenadiere tunic has different coloured piping to the Litzen and the Waffenfarbe, was this common practice. Sorry the images are not too good.
    Thank you.

    There's a lot of reasons - potentially: Using the earlier grass-green piping on boards with the later, more toxic-green tabs could have happened, the dyes used for the boards and tabs may have faded more on the boards than the tabs, or the tunic may have been restored with incorrect insignia at some point.

    My personal preference is for all matching insignia - aesthetically I have never liked differing color variations, but it certainly did happen. Panzergrenadier and Medical seem to be the two Waffenfarbe where this happens more so than others.

      There also are many threads about the "green problem".

        So this doesn't necessarily mean that the tunic is incorrect then.
        here's more images.

          Not necessarily, but with a rare unit like FHH, I would be very careful and get full inspection and return rights established before buying..

            Thanks Don,
            With tunic in hand what would I need to look for to verify that it's the genuine item, would it be possible to verify it on here using close-up and clear images.

              High-quality photos and lots of them can help a great deal, but the camera is not always a good substitute for a hands-on inspection, even with the best of intentions of the picture-taker.

                  about photos vs. in hand --- absolutely.
                  personally, I would get some cast-iron provenance on this piece. if everything s original to the tunic ...

                    Anything for elite and rare units should be torn apart, reexamined and then torn apart again. Most tunics like this are built.

                      The slight variation aspect applies to some other branch's, i.e PZ and i'm not talking about confusing VET with PZ coloration.

                        FHH waffenfarbe is usually white on field gray tunics.
                        Although panzergrenadier waffenfarbe is wiesengrun, I don't know when or if FHH
                        units used it on field gray tunics.
                        It's like GD waffenfarben: Both regiments wore white waffenfarbe with a strip at the base to 1dentify them: 1.Regiment was Grenadier and had a white strip at base;
                        2.Regiment was Fusilier and had a red strip at base.
                        The wiesengrun waffenfarbe used by GD was for the Kradschutzen batallion.

                        As recommended by others, check this tunic out carefully BEFORE buying or make
                        sure you have a return privilege.

                          Fhh

                          I have been told, by someone quite knowledgeable, that the use of Pz. Gren. Waffenfarbe by FHH related to the Panzer Brigade 106 FHH. The FHH became more than a single unit much like the expansion of GD.

                            Hello Glen;
                            Thanks for the info.
                            I have never seen a FHH strap/board with Pz.Gren. Waffenfarbe
                            (..but have seen Pink for panzer wraps, Artillerie red, at least so far..
                            have you seen / owned any other waffenfarbe?)

                              The only one that I have is an white board that I got from you. At one time, there were some pictures an FHH officer wearing a field gray wrapper and it looks to be gold Waffenfarbe. It was just an exceptional couple of Fotos and I wished i had copied them. Besides uniform, it stood out because his Frau was so attractive.

                              There was the Panzergrenadier Division FHH (the old 60. Motorized Division) and it became Panzer Division Feldhernhalle 1. Then, the 13. Panzer Division became Panzer Dvision Feldherrnhalle 2. There was another Panzer Brigade Feldherrnhalle to, this being #110 http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/.../PzBrig110.htm
