    Orange waffenfarbe with the cogwheel device were used by the Corps of Engineers, to include the engineer Officers Academy and Student officer Candidates (which your straps are).
    You have a very desirable and rare pair of straps.

        Could these also be for school cadre or would the metal device be worn by them regardless of rank.

          Thanks, Jens

              Hello Johnny;
              Yes, the permanent school cadre would wear the cogwheel as well.
              I don't know about all of them wearing the cogwheel though.

                I saw a regulation somewhere once where cadre were to wear metal insignia regardless of rank so it probably is for a student similar to the NCO boards with "A" for medical NCO ranking specialty officer candidates.

                  Hi all - I have one of these straps (sadly not a pair)...

                  I am curious, what was the purpose of the engineer Officers Academy? Did they teach regular Army Pioneer officers their craft? Or did they train engineering specialists?

                  Cheers,

                  BC
