    Seeking info about this jacket

    Hi guys,

Can someone tell me more about the jacket being worn by this soldier. He was a motorcyclist in a panzerpionier battalion during the 1942 offensive. To my untrained eye, it looks like it might be constructed of a lightweight waterproof material.

I have other photos, if needed.

    Thanks for any input.

Sorry I can't add any info, but that is one very cool outfit, especially with the matching pants. I agree, it looks like some type of waterproof material, but I've not seen that type before. The insignia really pops out at the viewer.

Might be a civilian motor bike garment fitted with heer insignia to give it a military look...

        Hi guys,

Thank you both for your replies. I've seen tens of thousands of photos of the Germans in action on the Ostfront during 1942 and never before have I seen this uniform. And it was not a one-off: there's several other photos in the album showing other men wearing the same outfit. Perhaps it was just this company/battalion that used them.

My guess is that this particular garment was being put through field trials as part of a test of some sort, possibly for a new wet weather smock or wind breaker smock which never was put in to production or issue?

Really no clue but a very good photo of an otherwise unknown smock!
