White Summer Tunic Alter Art - Old Style Help

    Hi Guys,

I need some help on this white (summer) old style tunic.
I'm not familiar with these kinds of uniforms.
Is this a public servant tunic or could it also be a Heer tunic?
I also want to know if these tunics are rare or not, because I could't compare this one with one on the forum.
(pics aren't the best, when I have some better ones I will post them)

    Thank You for your help!

this is a Navy summer tunic old style for NCO or Officirs, with IMHO wrong buttons and poor applied (wrong?!) ribbons.

From your images it appears that you have an Army Officer's Old Style White tunic.

In my opinion, the rings holding on the buttons are post war added to replace the steel split S-Rings I expect to see securing the buttons.

What is unusual about your tunic is the sewn on ribbon bar. Usually all buttons, the metal breast eagle (see the loops for it over the right breast pocket), shoulder boards, and awards are removable so the tunic could be washed.

Additionally, your tunic is missing the shoulder boards. The slots in the sleeve seams indicate this tunic was designed to use T-boards.

Tim, don't doubt your knowledge on this. Was it common for army officers to use these navy issued (judging by the BAW stamp) jackets?

With the Old Style tunics it seems there is a bit of a "gray" area.

Finding out reliable information about these white tunics is difficult. I have tried to determine the difference between the Army and Navy Old Style White tunics and as far as I have been able to determine about the only difference so far that I have found is that they use different buttons.

And of course since the buttons and metal breast eagles are removable, simply change these items and you have changed the tunic to Army or to Navy.

This jacket is identical to two old style jackets I own and which both are 100% Kriegsmarine.
The jacket shown here is a depot issue KM jacket.
IMHO someone has fitted it out this jacket with army replacement buttons.

Indeed I fully concur ! It is a classic old style (stand up collar) Kriegsmarine summer tunic,
hence the BAW (BekleidungsAmt Wilhelmshaven) depot stamp...so government issue, not private purchase...
Another KM indicator are the angled pocket corners! It would look much nicer with gilded anchor buttons (and gilded breast eagle!)
Is verkeerd gerestaureerd! Ben zelf oud BLJ ganger (Seedorf!)
