I'd pass on these boards, don't like the piping.

        Hello,

Can you take a couple closer shots of the piping? Thanks.

          Perfect mint original boards !

There are a new crop of these recently being pushed that I suspicious of. The piping is off - most originals have the standard German rayon piping - and the suspect type have a rougher piping type. Also noted:

              - many pairs have sold on Ebay with the more exotic branch colors, yellow, brown, pink, black, and they all have the tongues cut off to hide the incorrect cotton tongue lining

              - the buttonholes are too small on most of them. They would not accommodate a standard strap button.

              - many show the multi-piece undersides, but they never have the horizon blue material that shows up commonly in the construction of real boards

              - and recently, the use of the correct rayon undersides with complete tongues

I could be wrong, but be careful with these. They used to be a safe bet when they were cheap and plentiful - not so much anymore.

              regards, Robert

Not a fan of this pair. Don't like the piping and the stitching around the key holes. These used to go for 50 a pair, they are probably around 100 bucks now or so. I'd get a texbook original and not worry about proving anything to anyone in the future.

I didn't see many of these ROA shoulder boards with horizon blue cloth on the back ?
And i had 100's of them , still wrapped per 10 pairs holding the label of a Wien manufacturer sometimes ...not each pair of course , as some fakes !
The piping is a bit rougher than a "classical" but still a good german silk piping .
These ones are the most typical you could see and they are for sure 100% original , not to be confused with the E-Bay repros .
Look for example at the mixture of buttton holes, having also a straight shirt button holes type on one of the tongues ?

I know you've seen lots of these, Nick. Look at the buttonholes - they are too small for the standard shoulderboard buttons.

They look convincing, but they are not original IMO. Here's another pair going off German ebay now - they have them in all piping colors, and usually in something that's not the standard silk piping seen on real ones. These are selling for 25 euro - that's about all they'll bring.

I noticed that but i'm not home to closely check this point .
I think a normal jacket size button can fit those nevertheless ?
LW and KM EM jackets do have smaller buttons for the shoulder boards from time to time , Heer or WSS not ? Why ?
                      I don't know ...

I would be comfortable with the set that started the thread, but the ebay example on the other hand (worth $20) is totally different! (and appear to be too short...)

Now the set that started this thread:
Clearly scraps and a good sign as far as I can tell (A) + (B). Note shade difference...
Fakes are often the same wool with zig zag stitching added for effect! so (A) only!
and (C) backing material is text book! Rayon farbe piping may differ between originals...I will check my sets!

It would be great if the boards that started the thread were original - maybe they are. I do believe these are being faked and sold, however, so I would advise caution when buying these nowadays.

The reverse of the boards I posted also are multi-piece construction. This pair only has two-piece backing, but others have several pieces added. Also have some cutting lines visible.
